Von der Leyen: We must secure a just and lasting peace for Ukraine
Brussels, August 28 (Hibya) - European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen held talks with both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and United States President Donald Trump following the attack on Kyiv.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized that the large-scale attack on Kyiv also targeted EU offices, and she held discussions with both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump.
In a social media post, von der Leyen stated: “Putin must come to the negotiating table. We must secure a just and lasting peace for Ukraine, and we must do so with strong and reliable security guarantees. These guarantees will turn the country into a true steel hedgehog. Europe will be fully engaged in the process. Our defense tool SAFE will be crucial in strengthening the brave Ukrainian armed forces.”
Von der Leyen stressed that following the talks, Europe will work resolutely to enhance Ukraine’s defense capacity and support the peace process.
