Türk: Artificial intelligence should not be used to spread hatred
New York, June 18 (Hibya) – UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk emphasized, in a statement marking the International Day for Countering Hate Speech, that hate speech is never harmless.
Türk stated that hate speech distorts society, devalues people, and can be spread even more convincingly through tools such as artificial intelligence. He added that this fosters a mindset that legitimizes persecution and treats people as expendable.
He called for technologies to be designed to support social peace rather than incite hostility, and urged a clear stance against all forms of hatred.
