Protests Against Immigration Raids Spread Across the U.S.
Washington, June 12 (Hibya) - Downtown Los Angeles remains under curfew for a second night as protests against raids on undocumented immigrants and military deployments in the city continue for the sixth day.
Similar protests have erupted across the U.S., including in New York, Chicago, Austin, and Washington, D.C. More demonstrations are planned for this week.
The Trump administration has asked a judge to reject a court order that would limit California’s authority to deploy Marines and the National Guard.
The 700 Marines deployed to the Los Angeles area are still undergoing training, and it remains unclear when they will be tasked with intervening in the protests.
Meanwhile, the mayor of Spokane, Washington, declared a state of emergency and imposed a curfew in specific areas.
According to Mayor Lisa Brown, the curfew will last from 9:30 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. local time.
According to CNN, large groups of protesters took to the streets Wednesday afternoon, carrying banners and blocking roads.
