German Chancellor Merz emphasized that Russia is the greatest threat to peace in Europe.

He noted that Russia conducts hybrid attacks through sabotage, cyberattacks, and disinformation, saying: “That’s why we are acting decisively: strengthening our infrastructure, improving our coordination, and making society more resilient.”

Merz stressed that security is an important part of the German government’s political agenda, stating: “This is our message to the public. Therefore, the National Security Council will be our interface between internal, external, economic, and digital security.”

He also said that they aim to strengthen the Bundeswehr’s personnel and make the service more attractive for young people, adding: “This is being achieved through the Military Service Modernization Act. With this law, we are implementing an important project of the coalition agreement.”
