Lazzarini: The famine in Gaza was caused by human hands, it can be prevented with political will
New York, September 6 (Hibya) - Philippe Lazzarini, the UNRWA Commissioner-General, made a statement about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Speaking in Cairo, Lazzarini stated that the root causes of what is happening in Gaza are "impunity" and "lack of empathy," adding that this has turned life for the people into a "hell."
Lazzarini emphasized that one of the biggest problems in the region is famine created by human hands. He stated that this famine can be reversed, noting that only political will and the opening of aid channels are needed.
Lazzarini also noted that UNRWA currently has enough food and humanitarian materials in Egypt and Jordan to meet the critical needs of Gaza’s entire population for three months. He reiterated his call for an immediate ceasefire to allow aid to reach the region.
"The doors must be opened and we must be allowed to work," said Lazzarini, emphasizing the urgency of providing large-scale humanitarian aid to Gaza.
