Lazzarini: Luring starving people in Gaza to death is a war crime
New York, June 18 (Hibya) – Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of UNRWA under the United Nations, issued a strong statement regarding the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Lazzarini stated that the treatment of civilians struggling with hunger has become “a systematic form of inhumane treatment.”
He noted that in recent weeks, hundreds of civilians have died during aid operations conducted by private security firms under the name “Gaza Humiliation Foundation.” Lazzarini described these actions as “a fake humanitarian aid system based on lies, deception, and cruelty.”
“Inviting starving people to their death is a war crime. Those responsible for this system must be held accountable,” he said. He also emphasized the need to restore humanitarian principles and allow professionals to carry out their duties with respect and human dignity.
The UNRWA Commissioner-General said that what is happening has left a deep wound in the conscience of the international community, adding: “Humanitarian aid should be a means to protect life, not a deception.”
