President Zelensky announced that he met with Pope Leo XIV after the inauguration ceremony.

Zelensky stated that the Pope is a symbol of hope for peace for millions around the world, adding:

“The authority and voice of the Holy See can play an important role in ending this war. We thank the Vatican for its willingness to serve as a platform for direct negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. We are ready for dialogue in any format to achieve concrete results.”

Zelensky added: “We appreciate the support given to Ukraine and the clear voice in defense of a just and lasting peace.”
