Pakistan: Afghan territory was used in the terrorist attack
Islamabad, May 11 (Hibya) - Pakistan stated that the attack in Bannu, in which 15 police officers were killed, was planned by terrorist elements in Afghanistan, delivered a strong diplomatic note to the Afghan Taliban administration, and warned of a “decisive response” against the security threat.
Pakistan summoned Afghanistan’s diplomatic representative in Islamabad and delivered an official protest note regarding the attack that took place in the Bannu region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
In the vehicle-borne suicide attack carried out on May 9, 2026, against the Fateh Khel police checkpoint, which was said to have been conducted by the terrorist group referred to as “Fitna-al-Khawarij,” 15 police officers lost their lives and 4 people were injured.
The Pakistani side stated that intelligence and technical findings related to the attack indicate that the operation was planned by elements located on Afghan territory.
The statement emphasized “serious concern” over the use of Afghan territory for attacks against Pakistan and conveyed to the Taliban administration that such activities must not be allowed.
Pakistan also stated that it reserves the right to protect its national security against terrorist threats and that necessary steps would be taken against those responsible for the attack. During the meeting, it was noted that UN reports have also drawn attention to the presence of various terrorist organizations in Afghanistan.
