Israel raided a base near Damascus with helicopters and ground forces
Stockholm, August 28 (Hibya) – It was reported that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) carried out a raid on a Syrian army base near Damascus using helicopters and ground troops.
Syrian state media reported that Israeli troops landed from the air and conducted a two-hour operation; the Prime Minister’s Office denied claims that Israel was considering handing over the Mount Dov area as part of a possible agreement with Syria.
According to Syrian state media, on Wednesday-Thursday night, Israeli ground troops carried out a commando raid on a Syrian base that had been bombed two days earlier. It was reported that helicopters, fighter jets, and dozens of soldiers took part in the operation.
According to Syria’s Foreign Ministry, Israel first attacked the base outside Damascus on Tuesday, killing several Syrian soldiers. State television reported that the attack was repeated on Wednesday.
Following the second attack on Wednesday, state media reported that Israeli soldiers carried out a “raid with details not yet known” while intensive reconnaissance flights continued.
According to two Syrian army sources, an Israeli army unit landed on a strategic hill southwest of Damascus and carried out a two-hour operation before leaving the area.
The troops were said to have landed near Jebel Manee – a large air defense base previously operated by Iran, before being destroyed by Israel after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
According to a Syrian source speaking to Al Jazeera, four helicopters, two fighter jets, and dozens of soldiers took part in the raid.
