Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof said that Remembrance Day began in the Dutch House of Representatives.

In his statement, Schoof said: "This day of remembrance started in the Dutch House of Representatives (Tweede Kamer) and at the Nieuwspoort Press Center. Together with the State Secretary for Youth, Prevention and Sport, Vincent Karremans, we laid a wreath at the 'Honor Roll of the Fallen' located in the Statenpassage section of parliament. Then, we attended the memorial ceremony at the Nieuwspoort Press Center. At this ceremony, tribute was paid to the journalists, printers, typesetters, and couriers of the underground press who died during World War II for the sake of freedom of expression, as well as journalists who died in conflicts around the world. This evening, I will attend the National Remembrance Ceremony at Dam Square in Amsterdam and will have the honor of giving a speech."
