European Union (EU) Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib emphasized in her assessment that these practices must come to an end.

Expressing her views on such practices, Lahbib said, “End conversion practices. They are not therapy, they are violence. Nobody needs to be fixed.”

Referring to the citizens’ initiative and demands on the matter, Lahbib stated, “1.1 million EU citizens used a European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) to call for action to ban these practices.”

Lahbib called on member states, saying, “We call on all EU member states to ban conversion practices at national level and we will support them.”
