Kallas: Europe’s enlargement strengthens its global weight
Brussels, October 6 (Hibya) - EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said enlargement increases Europe’s weight in the world, stressing that countries making progress in the membership process should not be kept waiting.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said enlargement strengthens Europe’s influence in the world and is one of its most successful foreign policy tools in recent years.
Kallas said the European Commission’s new proposals set out clear steps for the gradual integration of countries seeking to join the Union, safeguards to prevent backsliding and the adaptation of European Union institutions.
Emphasizing that the current geopolitical conditions require faster action, Kallas said keeping countries that are making progress waiting creates conditions for instability to emerge.
