Budrys: The obstacle to peace is Russia
Vilnius, January 15 (Hibya) – Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Kestutis Budrys said that stronger sanctions to weaken Russia’s war economy and sustainable support for Ukraine are the path that must be followed.
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Budrys said that the facts are clear, stating: “Putin has shown no interest in peace. He rejects all proposals, avoids sincere negotiations, and remains firmly attached to demands that have not changed since 2021.”
Budrys noted that Russia’s response to diplomacy has been ballistic missile attacks on residential areas where civilians live, as well as attacks by Iranian-made Shahed drones targeting Ukraine’s energy and civilian infrastructure, adding:
“Let us be clear: the obstacle to peace is Russia. Any approach aimed at appeasing the aggressor only encourages further brutality. Stronger sanctions to weaken Russia’s war economy and sustainable support for Ukraine are the path to follow.”
