Tanzania’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe Kaganda and Zimbabwe’s Minister of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Mutsvangwa met in the capital, Harare.

During the meeting, efforts to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in various strategic areas of mutual interest were discussed.

Minister Mutsvangwa said relations between Tanzania and Zimbabwe are based on strong historical ties and the liberation struggles in Southern Africa. Mutsvangwa expressed appreciation for Tanzania’s contribution to Zimbabwe’s independence struggle and its efforts to preserve sites and records related to the region’s liberation history.

Mutsvangwa also referred to Tanzania’s efforts to promote clean energy, saying they wanted to benefit from Tanzania’s experience in combating deforestation and environmental degradation.

Ambassador Kaganda, meanwhile, emphasized the importance of maintaining and strengthening the existing cooperation between the two countries. Kaganda said training programs should be established, information and experience sharing should be increased, and memoranda of understanding and agreements should be signed in strategic areas.

The meeting also addressed the issue of combating violence against women. Kaganda said Tanzania is carrying out work under its Second National Action Plan to End Violence Against Women and Children and is taking steps to strengthen services for victims of violence.
