Orban: We must not allow war to exclude believers from Jerusalem
Budapest, March 30 (Hibya) - Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated that the decision by Israeli authorities to prevent the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem from entering the Church of the Holy Sepulchre on the Sunday before Easter is unacceptable for the Christian world.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban made a statement regarding restrictions on access to holy sites in Jerusalem and developments concerning freedom of religion.
Emphasizing the religious significance of Jerusalem and the right to worship, Orban said: “This is a painful Sunday before Easter. Authorities in Jerusalem prevented the Latin Patriarch from entering the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.”
Prime Minister Orban stated that security considerations should not override freedom of religion, saying: “Even taking into account the state of war and general security measures, this is unacceptable for us Christians.”
Highlighting the need to preserve the inclusive nature of Jerusalem, Orban said: “We must not allow war to exclude members of any religion from our shared holy city, Jerusalem.”
