Netanyahu: I instructed authorities to allow the Patriarch to hold services
Jerusalem, March 30 (Hibya) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that restrictions on the entry of the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre have been lifted and that necessary instructions were given to authorities to allow services to be held.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke about the security of holy sites in Jerusalem and the impact of military movements in the region on freedom of worship.
Highlighting security risks, Netanyahu said, "In recent days, Iran has repeatedly targeted the holy sites of the three monotheistic religions in Jerusalem with ballistic missiles. In one attack, missile fragments fell just meters away from the Church of the Holy Sepulchre."
Emphasizing the reason for temporary measures, Netanyahu stated, "Israel asked members of all religions to temporarily refrain from worship at Christian, Muslim, and Jewish holy sites in Jerusalem's Old City in order to protect worshippers."
Referring to the situation involving Patriarch Pizzaballa, Netanyahu said, "Today, taking his personal safety into account, Cardinal Pizzaballa was asked to refrain from holding services at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre."
Netanyahu added that he instructed authorities to grant the Patriarch full and immediate access so he can hold services as he wishes.
