Leyen: It is important that the US remains engaged in the process
Brussels, May 19 (Hibya) – European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen made a statement following the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
President von der Leyen stated that she held a consultation with French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to assess the Trump–Putin meeting.
She thanked Trump for his tireless efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Ukraine and said:
“It is important that the United States remains engaged in the process. We will continue to support Volodymyr Zelensky in securing lasting peace in Ukraine.”
