Lazzarini: In Gaza, the promise of ‘never again’ has once again been broken
New York, May 20 (Hibya) – Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of UNRWA, spoke at the European Humanitarian Forum in Brussels.
Lazzarini said that the international community had failed to uphold its humanitarian responsibility towards the people of Gaza.
"The promise of ‘never again’ was once again not kept for the people of Gaza. Day by day, before our eyes, we have neglected this responsibility," he said.
He emphasized that the ongoing war has effectively undermined international humanitarian law, including the Geneva Conventions, and warned that the consequences would extend far beyond Israel and Palestine, affecting the entire world.
"The phrase ‘never again’ cannot be applied selectively; it is our shared commitment to humanity," Lazzarini concluded.
