Kallas: This waterway is a global public good
Brussels, April 2 (Hibya) - European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas stated that during today’s meeting on the Strait of Hormuz, they discussed diplomatic, economic and security measures to restore safe passage in cooperation with the maritime transport sector.
EU High Representative Kaja Kallas said: "I thank Yvette Cooper for organizing the meeting on the Strait of Hormuz with the participation of more than 40 countries."
Stating that this waterway is a global public good, Kallas noted that Iran should not be allowed to demand fees from countries for permitting the passage of ships. She stated that international law does not recognize “payment for passage” systems.
Kallas added that today, together with the maritime transport sector, they discussed diplomatic, economic and security measures to restore safe passage.
