Fletcher: Multiple humanitarian crises are unfolding simultaneously
New York, March 24 (Hibya) - United Nations (UN) Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher warned of multiple simultaneous humanitarian crises, highlighting developments in Syria, Sudan, Somalia, South Sudan, Congo, and Ukraine.
UN Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher stated that serious crises are occurring simultaneously in many regions.
Drawing attention to the situation along the Syria-Lebanon border, Fletcher said: “Since March 2, more than 180,000 people have crossed the Syria-Lebanon border. At least 64 people, including 13 children, were killed in a drone attack on Ed Daein Teaching Hospital in East Darfur.”
Fletcher emphasized that clashes in Somalia have also led to displacement, adding: “30,000 people have been displaced due to fighting in Baidoa.”
Highlighting the risk of famine in South Sudan, Fletcher said: “There is a risk of famine in the Jonglei and Upper Nile regions. In Uvira, 9,000 people have been displaced, and in Ukraine around 50 people were injured in nighttime attacks.”
