European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen addressed the humanitarian situation in the region, Lebanon’s sovereignty, and the EU’s stance on achieving lasting peace.

Evaluating the ceasefire decision, von der Leyen said, “I welcome the 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon announced through President Trump’s mediation. This is a relief, as the conflict has already caused too many casualties.”

Emphasizing the need for lasting peace, von der Leyen added, “We now need not just a temporary pause, but a path to lasting peace. Europe will continue to call for full respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

Referring to humanitarian aid, von der Leyen stated, “We will continue to support the Lebanese people with significant humanitarian assistance.”
