Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg to sail to Gaza
Stockholm, May 30 (Hibya) – According to a French EU lawmaker, Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg is expected to sail to Gaza on Sunday with other activists aboard a ship loaded with emergency aid.
The journey is organized by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, a coalition of groups opposing Israel’s humanitarian blockade on the war-torn region.
Thunberg has not commented on the reports regarding her participation. She was due to travel to Gaza with the group in early May but never boarded the ship. The vessel was damaged in an Israeli drone attack in international waters off Malta.
No one was injured, but a fire broke out onboard and a hole was torn in the hull. Israel has not commented on the claims, though it has previously targeted similar ships heading to Gaza.
French MEP Rima Hassan from the left-wing party LFI, who will join the action, said the mission has several goals: “To denounce the humanitarian blockade and ongoing genocide, the impunity granted to the Israeli state, and to raise international awareness.”
