South African and Moroccan markets move in opposite directions
Istanbul, October 22 (Hibya) - Equity markets across the African continent ended a generally quiet trading day marked by low trading volumes. While many stock market indices across the continent recorded no price changes, contrasting trends emerged in the markets of major economies.
South Africa's Top 40 index, representing one of the continent's largest and most liquid financial markets, ended the day with a loss of 0.79 percent, falling to 101,739.26 points. In contrast to this downward trend, Morocco's stock market, one of North Africa's major markets, managed to post positive performance.
Morocco's Moroccan All Shares index rose 0.43 percent to 17,007.86 points. Mauritius's Semdex index also closed the day with a gain of 0.60 percent, while stock market indices in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda remained unchanged.
