Second US military jet accidentally crashes into Red Sea
Washington, May 8 (Hibya) – A US military jet crashed into the Red Sea yesterday after a landing gear failure on the aircraft carrier Harry S. Truman. This marks the second US military jet to accidentally crash into the Red Sea in just over a week.
The pilots on board were rescued from the sea with minor injuries. Both jets were F/A-18s, each costing $60 million.
The Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier is based in the US state of Virginia but was deployed to the Red Sea last fall in response to attacks by Houthi rebels in Yemen on cargo ships.
In December, the USS Gettysburg also accidentally downed an F/A-18 fighter jet from the Harry S. Truman; both pilots survived.
In February, the aircraft carrier collided with a cargo ship.
