Saar: We welcome Colombia's decision on the Golan Heights
Tel Aviv, August 10 (Hibya) - Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar described Colombia's decision to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights as historic, announcing that he will work to encourage more countries to take similar steps.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar made a statement regarding Colombia's decision to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights.
Saar thanked Colombia and Colombian President Abelardo De La Espriella for the decision. He said the decision was taken following a meeting between the two leaders last Thursday in the Colombian city of Barranquilla.
Saar argued that Colombian President De La Espriella demonstrated his leadership, values and commitment to Israel and its security with one of his first decisions in office. Saar also thanked Colombian Foreign Minister Omar Bula Escobar for his friendship and cooperation.
Saar said Israel is a small country without strategic depth, stating that having defensible borders is important to ensure Israel's existence and the security of the Jewish people in their historic homeland.
