Russia: Attacks on Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant pose risk of nuclear accident
Moscow, October 5 (Hibya) - Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova claimed that Ukraine’s attacks on the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant pose a serious risk of a nuclear accident and called on the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to respond.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova made a statement regarding what she described as Ukraine’s attacks and provocations against the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
Zakharova claimed that on October 4, a drone used by Ukraine attacked a laboratory and support building located approximately 200 meters from the plant’s reactor units. She said the radioactive waste processing building was also targeted twice on the same day and argued that the attacks could damage equipment required for the safe handling of radioactive materials.
Zakharova also said a truck carrying food for plant personnel was targeted near Melitopol and that the driver was killed, offering condolences to his family and relatives.
Zakharova claimed that Ukraine aims to disrupt the plant’s operations and create a risk of a nuclear accident through attacks on the facility and related infrastructure, and alleged that Western countries’ arms support for Ukraine encourages such attacks.
Zakharova called on the leadership of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to openly condemn the actions of Ukraine and its supporters.
