Russell: Children in Sudan are trapped in a crisis of violence, hunger, and disease
New York, May 15 (Hibya) - United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Executive Director Catherine Russell emphasized the scale of the humanitarian crisis faced by children in Sudan.
United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Executive Director Catherine Russell referred to the difficult conditions faced by children in the region and the inadequacy of healthcare services.
Sharing her observations and the realities on the ground in Sudan, Russell said: “Children in Sudan are trapped in a crisis of violence, hunger, and disease. Children suffering from severe acute malnutrition are arriving at overcrowded facilities too weak even to cry.”
Russell stated that the organization continues its efforts, but stressed that greater global action is needed, concluding her statement with the words: “UNICEF is responding on the ground. But more action is needed to save lives.”
