Prevot announces support for Ebola outbreak in Congo
Brussels, May 23 (Hibya)- Belgium announced that it is closely monitoring the new Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and providing support within the framework of international cooperation.
Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot made a statement regarding the new Ebola outbreak that emerged in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Prevot stated that Belgium is closely monitoring the outbreak in coordination with health authorities and international partners.
It was stated that Belgium is providing scientific expertise, strengthening testing capacity, virus analysis, research, and humanitarian aid support to field response efforts within the framework of international cooperation.
The statement noted that the Antwerp Institute of Tropical Medicine contributed to the virus’s genetic sequencing studies and the development of on-site testing.
Prevot emphasized the importance of strengthening local capacity and international coordination in regions where health systems are fragile and conflicts are ongoing.
It was stated that Belgium will continue its cooperation in the field of global health with partners in Africa, Europe, and the international community.
