Pakistan emphasizes UN reform and Palestine
Islamabad, July 6 (Hibya) – Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar met with United Nations Secretary-General candidate and former Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Maria Fernanda Espinosa.
During his meeting with United Nations Secretary-General candidate and former Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Maria Fernanda Espinosa, Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar emphasized the importance of United Nations reforms and the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions on Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir.
According to a statement by Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dar told Espinosa that Pakistan "fully supports strengthening multilateralism and preserving the United Nations' central role in addressing global issues."
Dar expressed his expectation that the next UN Secretary-General would "implement the much-needed reforms within the United Nations and ensure the implementation of the long-pending UN Security Council resolutions, particularly those concerning Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir." He added that these two issues "are critical to achieving lasting peace in the Middle East and South Asia."
Dar also reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to "upholding the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, promoting respect for international law and treaties, and advancing international cooperation for global peace and prosperity."
