Ghebreyesus: Al-Awda Hospital is out of service
Geneva, May 29 (Hibya) – World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced that Al-Awda Hospital in northern Gaza has gone out of service following an evacuation order.
Dr. Ghebreyesus stated that Al-Awda Hospital in northern Gaza was rendered out of service after the evacuation order was issued, and said that WHO had been informed by the Ministry of Health.
He reported that 97 people, including 13 patients, remain inside, saying, “Despite ongoing insecurity, WHO is planning a mission to transfer the patients to another facility tomorrow.”
Ghebreyesus said that due to impassable roads, the hospital's medical equipment could not be moved, and added:
“With the closure of Al-Awda, there are no functioning hospitals left in northern Gaza – cutting a critical lifeline for the people there. WHO is pleading for the hospital’s protection and the safety of its staff and patients, and reiterates its call for the active protection of civilians and health services. Hospitals must never be attacked or militarized. Ceasefire!”
