Assad and Atef Najib sentenced to death in Syria
Istanbul, August 11 (Hibya) - Former Political Security chief Atef Najib and former President Bashar al-Assad were sentenced to death in Syria's Daraa province in a case concerning crimes committed during the civil war.

The Criminal Court in Damascus found Assad guilty of premeditated murder and Najib guilty of premeditated murder and torture. The court ruled that the crimes committed in Daraa in 2011 under the Assad government constituted crimes against humanity.
