Zelensky: We remember the victims of Russia's downing of flight MH17
Kyiv, July 17 (Hibya) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that exactly 11 years ago, Russia shot down Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, killing all 298 people of various nationalities on board.
President Zelensky stated that they are commemorating the victims of Russia’s downing of flight MH17.
He offered condolences to everyone in the Netherlands, Australia, Malaysia, and Belgium who lost loved ones on that tragic day.
Zelensky emphasized that from the very first hours after the crime, Moscow did everything it could to shift blame and evade accountability, saying:
“Russian officials and propaganda outlets continued spreading fake news and conspiracy theories. But the truth emerged over time. In 2022, the Hague District Court, and in 2025, the ICAO Council and the ECHR clearly found Russia fully responsible for this crime. This case proves that justice is inevitable, no matter how hard Moscow tries to deceive and deny its responsibility.”
