Wong: Australia welcomes ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon
Canberra, April 17 (Hibya) – Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said Australia welcomes the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon achieved through U.S. mediation.
Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong emphasized that the ceasefire should evolve into lasting peace and that Lebanon’s state sovereignty must be protected within the framework of United Nations decisions.
Expressing satisfaction with the decision, Wong said, "Australia welcomes the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon achieved through U.S. mediation. We call on all parties to the conflict to adhere to it."
Referring to the conditions for sustainable peace, Wong stated, "We want the conflict to end through negotiations, respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty, and the disarmament of Hezbollah in line with UN Security Council Resolution 1701."
