Undeclared gold and foreign currency seized at Bulgarian border crossing
Sofia, July 30 (Hibya) – During a joint inspection at Bulgaria's Lesovo Border Crossing, authorities seized undeclared €16,310 in cash and 228.20 grams of gold.
According to the Bulgarian Customs Agency, on July 24 a passenger bus with foreign registration plates traveling from Romania to Türkiye through the Lesovo Border Crossing was inspected by customs and border police officers.
Although the bus driver and passengers declared that they had no goods to declare, officers discovered €16,310 hidden in the underwear and handbag of a female Romanian passenger, together with gold bars and gold coins weighing a total of 228.20 grams.
An expert examination determined that the total value of the bars and coins, made of gold of various purities, was €25,115.
Customs authorities seized the undeclared cash and gold and announced that two separate administrative proceedings had been initiated against the Romanian citizen under the Currency Act and the Customs Act.
