Ukrainian Foreign Ministry: We are proud of our Ukrainian athletes
Kyiv, 22 February (Hibya) - The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it is proud of the determination shown by its 46 athletes who competed under Russian attacks and intense pressure.
According to a statement by the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the closing day of the 2026 Winter Olympics they expressed immense pride in the Ukrainian athletes.
The statement, which referred to the difficulties faced during the preparation process, said: “Today, as the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games come to an end, we are extremely proud of our Ukrainian athletes who represented the country with honor; often preparing to compete under Russian attacks and extraordinary pressure, they never lost their spirit or determination.”
Emphasizing the athletes’ role in making Ukraine’s struggle heard around the world, the statement added: “This year, not only the performances mattered, but also the voice of Ukraine’s team of 46 athletes. And that voice was heard loud and clear, speaking about Russia’s crimes, about memory, and about our fight for freedom.”
The ministry statement concluded: “We are grateful to everyone who proudly carried the Ukrainian flag at the competitions and honored the memory of the athletes and coaches killed by Russia.”
