Ukrainian Foreign Minister Sybiha: Ukraine's position is consistent
Kiev, February 27 (Hibya) - Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha made a statement after news that Botswana citizens had been involved in the war on Russia’s side, saying that they are ready for intelligence sharing and official dialogue with the Gaborone government.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha commented on the statement issued by the Botswana Ministry of International Relations on February 26, expressing concerns about the conscription of its citizens into the Russia-Ukraine war.
Sybiha welcomed the Botswana government’s efforts to clarify the issue, emphasizing that Ukraine is open to bilateral dialogue on the matter.
Sybiha invited the Botswana authorities to discuss the issue with Ukraine through official channels, stating, “We are ready to present the information and assessments we have, based on our intelligence.”
Expressing that Ukraine's stance on the involvement of foreign citizens in this war is clear, Sybiha added, “Ukraine’s position is consistent: the involvement of foreign citizens in Russia's aggressive war leads to serious and often deadly consequences. Furthermore, the participation of Botswana citizens as mercenaries in foreign armed conflicts is prohibited by Botswana's national legislation.”
