Commenting on the latest situation in Niger, Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani emphasized Rome's commitment to security and stability in the region.

Providing information on the situation on the ground and security measures, Tajani said, "In coordination with our Embassy in Niamey, I am closely monitoring developments in Niger following the attacks that struck the capital over the past few hours."

Expressing his thanks, Tajani said, "Our citizens in the country and the military personnel of the Bilateral Support Mission in Niger are safe. We thank our Armed Forces for the important work they carry out every day on the ground, including in this strategic region."

Drawing attention to the strategic importance of the region, Tajani said, "Niger's stability is fundamental to the security of the entire Sahel region and is also extremely important in the fight against illegal trafficking and irregular migration flows. Italy will continue to be at the forefront of efforts to ensure stability in this region, which directly affects the Mediterranean and Europe."

Tajani concluded his statement by saying, "We hope that order will be restored quickly, with full protection for the civilian population."
