Istanbul, August 12 (Hibya) – Alnus Yatırım expects the BIST 100 to open the day flat after closing the previous trading session at 13,704.52 points. In global markets, developments around the Strait of Hormuz and the United States (US) Consumer Price Index (CPI) data will be closely watched.
Alnus Yatırım expects the BIST 100 to open the day flat after closing the previous trading session at 13,704.52 points. In global markets, developments around the Strait of Hormuz and the United States (US) Consumer Price Index (CPI) data will be closely watched.
According to Alnus Yatırım’s Daily Bulletin dated August 12, 2026, the BIST 100 index started the previous trading day with a decline of 21.14 points.
As selling pressure intensified during the day, the index fell as low as 13,562.45 points and ended the session down 0.78 percent at 13,704.52 points. Trading volume amounted to TL 185.91 billion.
BIMAS, TRALT and TUPRS made the largest negative contributions to the index in point terms. BIST 30 fell 0.93 percent, BIST Industrials 1.14 percent, BIST Services 1.19 percent and BIST Banks 0.66 percent.
The bulletin noted that trade and retail sales volumes stood out among the economic data released in Türkiye.
In June, trade sales volume fell 4.5 percent year-on-year, pointing to a more pronounced weakening compared with the 1.4 percent decline in the previous month. Retail sales volume rose 11.8 percent year-on-year, but remained below the previous month's 13.7 percent increase.
Total turnover in the industry, construction, trade and services sectors increased by 25.8 percent year-on-year, marking a notable slowdown from 32.9 percent in the previous month.
The report said US-Iran relations and developments around the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea were at the forefront in global markets, drawing attention to the impact of geopolitical risks on energy prices.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s tough remarks regarding negotiations with the US and reports that Yemen’s Houthis had targeted a Saudi Arabian vessel in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait increased concerns over supply routes.
Against the backdrop of these developments, Brent crude rose above the $90 level during the day. It was also noted that US President Donald Trump’s remarks that there were three options regarding Iran — continuing negotiations, increasing attacks or deepening economic pressure — kept geopolitical risk perceptions elevated in the markets.
Alnus Yatırım pointed out that the upward movement in oil prices continued following Iran’s statements that it would not open the Strait of Hormuz unless the US complied with conditions set by Tehran.
Asian markets were mixed, while US and European index futures traded flat. The BIST 100 is also expected to start the day flat.
Domestically, Foreign Trade Indices will be monitored today. The MSCI index review expected to be announced in the evening is also among the important agenda items for Borsa Istanbul.
In global markets, the most important data of the day will be the US July CPI figures. Alnus Yatırım emphasized that the data could cause significant volatility in the markets.
According to Alnus Yatırım’s technical analysis, the 13,700 level is the first support for the BIST 100. If the index falls below this level, 13,600 will be monitored.
If the index remains persistently below 13,600, the possibility of a pullback toward the 13,400 region may come into focus.
On upward moves, the 13,900 and 14,000 levels will be monitored as resistance.
Supports: 13,700 – 13,600 – 13,400
Resistances: 13,900 – 14,000
The near-term BIST 30 futures contract ended the day under selling pressure at 15,672. Alnus Yatırım said that if selling continues, the 15,650 and 15,490 levels will be monitored as support.
In the event of possible reaction buying, the 16,000 and 16,250 levels are resistance.
USD/TRY ended the previous trading day around 47.76. In the new day, the exchange rate is moving flat around 47.75, and no technical resistance level was given due to trading near record highs.
On downward moves, it will be monitored whether the exchange rate can remain persistently below 47.75.
