Russia: A ceasefire in Ukraine is not realistic at this stage
New York, April 18 (Hibya) – Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, told reporters after closed consultations at the UN Security Council that a ceasefire in Ukraine is not realistic yet.
Nebenzya said, “We made an initiative for a limited ceasefire regarding energy infrastructure, but the Ukrainian side did not comply. Under these conditions, it is not realistic to speak of a ceasefire at this stage.”
Commenting on whether potential agreements between Russia and Ukraine should be formalized by the UN Security Council, Nebenzya said it would all depend on the conditions of a potential ceasefire and the wording of the document.
He emphasized that Western countries had not expressed any willingness to pressure Kyiv to comply with a moratorium on attacks on energy infrastructure.
