Following their talks, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping signed a package of documents and made statements to the press on enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation on the international stage.

Xi said that China-Russia relations in the new era are “reliable, stable, and resilient,” and emphasized China’s willingness to work with Russia to support a multipolar world.

Putin described his Chinese counterpart as a “dear friend,” while Xi referred to Putin as an “old friend.”

Xi stated: “History and reality have fully proven that the continued development and deepening of China-Russia relations is a natural continuation of the long-standing friendship between our peoples.”

Xi is in Moscow for celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, commemorated in Russia as Victory Day on May 9.

World leaders flying to Moscow for the event faced potential disruptions due to Ukrainian drone attacks, which led to the closure of most of the capital’s airports on Wednesday. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić’s plane was rerouted.
