Chancellor Merz stated that it was a historic day for the friendship between Germany and the United Kingdom.

He emphasized that they aim to guarantee freedom, security, and prosperity for citizens, and said: “We are working to ensure that especially the younger generation gets to know our countries better. This friendship agreement represents exactly that.”

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, in his remarks on the matter, said that Germany had committed to changing its laws to disrupt the supply of small boats.

Starmer noted that working with international partners is delivering results for the British people, saying: “We will dismantle human trafficking networks and secure our borders.”
