German Chancellor Friedrich Merz commented on the extension of the ceasefire between the United States and Iran.

Merz said, “We welcome the extension of the ceasefire between the United States and Iran. This presents an important opportunity to resume diplomatic negotiations and prevent further escalation of the conflict.”

Addressing Iran, Merz stated, “We call on Iran to end its nuclear weapons program and to stop threatening Israel and other neighboring states.”

He also referred to the security of the Strait of Hormuz, saying, “The Strait of Hormuz must remain permanently secure and be kept open without any restrictions or transit fees.”

Merz added, “If hostilities cease, we are ready to contribute to free navigation in the Strait of Hormuz together with our partners, in accordance with international law and national procedures.”
