Meloni: "I welcome the proposal for the 'safe countries of origin' list with great pleasure"
Rome, April 16 (Hibya) - Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced that she welcomed with great pleasure the European Commission's proposal for a 'safe countries of origin' list, which includes Bangladesh, Egypt, and Tunisia.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced that she welcomed with great pleasure the European Commission's proposal for a 'safe countries of origin' list, which includes Bangladesh, Egypt, and Tunisia.
Meloni also expressed her positive view of the proposal to accelerate the implementation of some elements of the Migration and Asylum Pact, saying:
"In particular, defining safe countries of origin with exceptions for certain regions and categories and applying the 20% criterion, as foreseen in the protocol signed between Italy and Albania, allows for the application of expedited border procedures for migrants from certain countries. This development once again confirms the correctness of the path taken by the Italian government in recent years and shows that more and more European countries are supporting this path."
