Kallas: 60 countries pledge to oppose tolls on international sea routes
Brussels, October 12 (Hibya) - European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas announced that 60 countries had joined the “No Fees, No Tolls” initiative, pledging to oppose fees and tolls on international maritime transport routes.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said international maritime access should remain open to everyone, not only to those able to pay.
In a statement on social media, Kallas said 60 countries had joined the global pledge titled “No Fees, No Tolls.” She said the participating countries had committed to opposing the imposition of tolls or similar charges on international maritime transport routes.
Kallas said the initiative sent a clear diplomatic message to those seeking to control waterways for their own interests. She thanked the countries that had signed the pledge and invited others to join the initiative.
