Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni met with US President Donald Trump at the White House.

Expressing her pride in being there, Meloni said: "Despite the challenges, the country is stable and truly successful – inflation is falling. I’m promoting my country, but of course you’ll understand that. Migration is down by 60%. I believe we can do better work together. I’d also like to mention Ukraine – just as we defended it together, we can also build a stable and lasting peace."

Trump told the press: "We want to end this. An average of 2,500 people are dying. Of course, we can save those lives. We’ll see what we can do. I think we’re close to a result."

Trump answered journalists' questions as follows:

"How much time does Putin have to respond to your ceasefire offer? Are new sanctions coming?"
"We think we’ll get a response this week. We want to stop the loss of life. I’m sure he’ll act the way I want."

"What’s your opinion on the Constitutional Court's decision about complying with court rulings?"
