Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei made strong remarks directed at Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama.

In a statement posted on social media, Baqaei argued that the accusations against Iran were baseless and said responsibility for the recent developments lay with the Albanian government.

Stating that Albania has a rich culture and a deep-rooted history, Baqaei said the country's leadership should listen to the assessments and criticisms of its own people.

The Iranian spokesperson maintained that responsibility for national sovereignty and domestic political developments belongs to the Albanian authorities and stated that the government should not portray Iran as a “scapegoat” in the face of public criticism.

Baqaei also said that the Albanian government should first and foremost take into account the criticisms voiced by its own citizens.
