Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Baqaei said, in remarks on relations between Iran and South Korea, that ties between the two countries have a history of more than 64 years and have developed on the basis of mutual respect.

Stating that Iran attaches great importance to friendly relations with South Korea, Baqaei argued that under the current circumstances Iran is defending itself against U.S. attacks.

Baqaei said any South Korean military deployment in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, or participation in operations, would be regarded by Iran as support for U.S. attacks and that this would «lead to serious consequences».

The Iranian spokesperson argued that sovereign and responsible countries should not yield to U.S. pressure and threats, and called on them not to become complicit in attacks and crimes against the Iranian people.
