Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said severe and prolonged rainfall affecting many parts of the country had caused serious damage.

Sanchez said the night had been particularly difficult in the town of Madrigueras in the Albacete region, adding that developments in the area were being closely monitored.

Sanchez expressed condolences to the family of the woman who died as a result of the flooding and conveyed a message of support and solidarity to residents of the affected area.

Sanchez urged citizens to remain cautious and follow warnings issued through official emergency channels.
