Tsahkna congratulated Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir and the people of Iceland in his message marking Iceland’s National Day.

He recalled that Iceland was the first state to recognize Estonia’s restored independence in 1991, noting the historical importance of this step for Estonia. He emphasized that Estonia regained its independence after nearly half a century of Soviet occupation, and that the partnership between the two countries has steadily strengthened since then.

The Estonian minister stated that he looks forward to further strengthening bilateral relations in the coming years and deepening cooperation within the NB8 platform of Nordic-Baltic countries.

Tsahkna’s message once again highlighted the importance of the long-standing friendship and solidarity between Estonia and Iceland.
