European Council President Antonio Costa referred to recent developments in the region and maritime security, speaking about the European Union’s diplomatic ties with Gulf countries.

Assessing regional solidarity, Costa said, “We stand in solidarity with those under attack from Iran, and we are grateful for their protection of our EU citizens.”

Referring to the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, Costa said, “The EU is ready to contribute to ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.”

Drawing attention to the vision for the coming period and partnership goals, Costa stated, “Looking ahead, it is clear that we need to strengthen the EU-Gulf Cooperation Council relationship.”
